Great for adding Air Quality monitoring to your project.
This board has a dupoint header, compatible with I2C devices. The onboard LDO regulator allows you to supply it with anything between 3v and 5v (it has a green ON LED so you know when the power pin and ground are properly wired.)
The BME680 sensor contains temperature, humidity, barometric pressure, and VOC gas sensing capabilities.
Similar to the BME280 & BMP280, this advanced sensor by Bosch accurately measures humidity with a ±3% margin of error, barometric pressure with a ±1 hPa absolute error, and temperature with a ±1.0°C precision. Its exceptional pressure readings also make it suitable for use as an altimeter, providing an accuracy of ±1 meter or better due to the effect of altitude on pressure.
The BME680 includes a MOX sensor, which measures the resistance of heated metal oxide in response to volatile organic compounds (VOC) in the air. This allows for the detection of gases and alcohols such as Ethanol, Alcohol, and Carbon Monoxide, as well as accurate air quality measurements. Keep in mind that while it provides a resistance value for overall VOC content, it is not able to distinguish between specific gases or alcohols.
It is important to note that this sensor, like all VOC/gas sensors, may have variability. To obtain accurate measurements, it is recommended to calibrate it with known sources. For general environmental sensing, this sensor can provide valuable insights on trends and comparisons. To ensure the most accurate results, we suggest running the sensor for 48 hours upon first receiving it, followed by 30 minutes in the desired mode each time it is used. This is necessary as the sensitivity levels may change during initial usage and the resistance will gradually increase as the MOX reaches its baseline reading.
You can use it both with 'I2C controllers' like a Feather, Metro, QT Py, ESP32, or with 'I2C devices' like sensors, OLEDs or GPIO expanders.
